Solid player, kinda interesting what the bolts are aiming for here. They keep adding F and have committed to long term deals on the backend and yet are no closer to a cup than they were 4 years ago.

I still don't see them being better than Caps, Pens, Bruins or even possibly Leafs.

Solid write up, Todd. I didn't read what the other guy said because I know he has never seen him play, or knew who Gourde was before today.

James Tanner says this is a risk but says Leafs should go ahead and give Nylander with only two 61 point seasons 8 mil a year on a long term

It's better than the contracts of any of the following Lightning :

Killorn, Callahan, or McDonagh.

It's Brayden Point that is going to break the bank.

I was going to comment at least it wasn't 8-8.5M

Whew looked at Tampa's cap situation. When people say they have to win THIS year, nothing is more true than with the Lightning this year...not next or the year after...THIS year.

It looks grim, but there is some wiggle room if the cap grows as currently expected.

Callahan will be bought out or traded with some salary retained.

One or more of : Palat, Johnson, Killorn, or Gourde will be traded.

Stralman, Coburn, and Girardi will be off the books as UFA.

Not only will Tampa be fine, but it's also worth noticing that Karlsson has not signed an extension or long-term contract in San Jose. They are all-in to win this season. Karlsson is a rental and he plans on signing in Tampa after this season. That is the story nobody is talking about yet. And that is when the cap-crunch will hit and hard decisions will need to be made.

The Caps don't belong on this list. Despite their winning the Cup, they're a team in decline and they are a borderline playoff team. The Lightning have a real argument for best team in hockey.

Nylander is 22, and because of his ice time and his PP usage, his counting totals are extremely repressed. Nylander is an elite talent. Gourde is not. There is no comparison here. And, frankly, if Gourde is worth six on a six year deal, Nylander is easily worth 8x8
